Business Analyst - London / Sheffield

Bluestone Mortgages (BML) is a dynamic, credit orientated lending business with almost 80 employees and operations out of offices in London and Sheffield. The business is backed by Macquarie Bank, one of Australia’s largest investment banks and majority owned by management. BML is part of a group of businesses which include Fignum (a fintech start-up), BMFI (a motor finance business) and BCF (a consumer finance business).

BML’s strategy is to acquire, originate, fund and manage specialist residential mortgages. Currently the business is expanding strongly, and this has created an exciting opportunity for an experienced Business Analyst to help drive forward critical projects that will deliver significant value to the business.normal;background:white'>Bluestone primarily serves customers that fall outside mainstream lenders criteria, making it a very interesting segment to serve. Customers are generally self-employed, contract or part-time workers, recent migrants, and those with complex or irregular incomes. Loan purpose is a mix of purchase and refinance, and we write traditional, help to buy, and buy to let mortgages.

The role will be based in Bluestone’s modern office in Chancery Lane, London with some travel expected to Sheffield from time to time. A portion of time will be ‘work from home’ if desired.

Job Overview:

The UK Mortgages team are working on a range of projects which will deliver significant value to our business. We’re looking for an individual who will assist our existing team with the completion of these and future initiatives. This is an opportunity for the right person to develop front to back knowledge of our lending business, gain skills in a number of different areas and become a valued member of our team. Reporting into the Lending Operations Director, the individual must be a personable self-starter looking for a challenge within a fast growing organisation.

Core responsibilities

  • Work closely with business heads to understand requirements for operational processes that are crucial to Bluestone’s day-to-day operations and expansion.
  • Undertake gap analysis against ‘current’ and ‘go to’ processes.
  • Define, design and document changes to operational processes for both IT (in the form of technical specifications) and frontline staff (in the form of user guides).
  • Assist with User Acceptance Testing of IT change; develop test plans, co-ordinate and undertake end user tests.
  • Support Director of Lending Operations with the research of new product offerings and be the go to person for leading the implementation of such initiatives. As well as owning the Bluestone rate matrix.
  • Own issues from identification to resolution.
  • Projects; perform a key role in leading / helping to deliver our business objectives.
  • Assist in implementing a business-wide change management process.
  • Help foster a culture of continuous improvement within our organisation by engaging colleagues at all levels to identify opportunities for improvement.

Skills & Requirements

  • Logical Mindset, likes solving problems.
  • Minimum 2-3 years in a similar role ideally within financial services industry
  • High attention to detail is a must, with some previous experience that can demonstrate this.
  • Good business judgment and a practical, common sense approach to getting things done.
  • Strong time-management skills with a capacity to handle multiple and often conflicting demands.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel essential; proficiency with databases,SQL and reporting/MI experience a strong plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with confidence to present - clearly and concisely, at an appropriate level of detail for different audiences.
  • Experience handling and analysing large data sets a bonus.
