Regulatory Oversight Manager - London or Sheffield

Job Overview:

This is a standalone role, with responsibility assisting the CRO in ensuring BML’s compliance with all regulatory requirements, the maintenance and delivery of our outsourcing framework and oversight of our outsourced relationships.

Core responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring BML’s compliance with regulatory obligations, including our governance framework and the expectations set out in the FCA’s Systems & Controls Handbook (SYSC).
  • Establish controls and monitoring protocols to monitor compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a holistic view of the regulatory and legislative landscape, ensuring BML is aware of and fully prepared to meet all forthcoming changes.
  • Create comprehensive reporting to monitor and evidence BML’s compliance with internal governance procedures and FCA’s Systems & Controls Handbook (SYSC).
  • Subject Matter Expert on UK mortgage regulation.
  • Working with BML’s Risk Manager, update the risk register for all regulatory risk issues and specifically those relating to outsourced relationships.
  • Maintain and deliver BML’s outsourcing framework, with a specific focus on protecting appropriate and fair customer outcomes, and vulnerable customers.
  • Maintain the highest standards of governance oversight of our third party service providers and ensure their delivery of those services are in accordance with those detailed in their respective contracts.
  • Attend the Regulation & Compliance Committee and the Operational Risk Committee, presenting to Committee members on regulatory & outsourcing issues.
  • Manage BML’s relationship with their outsourced servicer, ensuring the highest levels of oversight and governance.

Skills & Requirements


  • Strong understanding of UK mortgage regulation
  • Strong understanding of the FCA’s SMCR framework and SYSC handbook.
  • Detailed knowledge of the specialist lending sector of the mortgage market.
  • Experience of corporate governance protocols in a financial services business.
  • Experience of undertaking a similar roles with a financial services environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good communication skills.
